About the Artist

Wildlife & Western artist, Helen F. Howerton , a native Tulsan, has received National acclaim for her original paintings created in Oil and Acrylic mediums. She earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree, University of Tulsa. Helen has traveled extensively to study, sketch & photograph animals in their natural environment. National Parks and refuges, privately held animal preserve, wildlife research centers and personal observation & pleinaire painting/sketching provide inspiration and references for future art images. “Creating art is a personal response and interpretation of the wonderful world in which we live…Animals and birds add beauty and harmony. My goal as an artist is to capture moments in time that convey and inspire appreciation for wildlife species in their natural habitat.”

Visual Arts Coalition, member of the National Oil & Acrylic Painters Association, American Plains Artists & Oil Painters of America. Her original images have been exhibited at the C.M. Russell Museum & Auction, Old West Museum, Gilcrease and Philbrook Museums, the Oklahoma Heritage Museum, AKC Museum of the Dog, the George Ohr Museum, the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library/Museum & The Oklahoma State Capitol.

“Who’s Who in Limited Editions” & “Who’s Who of American Women” 2002 through 2009. Her paintings have been featured in interviews on television stations: KJRH, KOTV and the Garden Channel. Feature articles: “Horses in Art”,“Chronicle of Grand Lake”& Tulsa World Newspaper.

She has juried numerous competitions, given painting demos and painting workshops. Helen Howerton is recognized for her specialty in canine portraiture and is an invited member of the Artists Registry of the American Kennel Club Museum of the Dog located in St. Louis, MO.
